It’s November 15th, 2014 and today, tech-giant Google finally lifted the curtain on it’s latest version of Android; Android Lollipop, previously codenamed “Android L”, which was initially announced in June this year, at Google’s annual press conference, Google I/O 2014. The new Operating System will be aimed towards business and corporate users more than in previous years with the addition of being able to switch between “business” and “personal” profiles, similar to that of BlackBerry 10.

There will also be a “Do Not Disturb” mode to block any notifications coming up on the device, similar to the feature on iOS 7/8, and a new and improved Notification Centre which will have better, interactive push notifications at the top of the screen, as well as quick toggles and more advanced notification management. All of this to be skinned with Material Design, a new design scheme for the OS. Material Design incorporates more shapes, a brighter colour palette, shadows, better transitions and a whole lot more to give the user a better experience and generally improved operating system.

Android Lollipop is going to be Android version 5.0 and will be an available upgrade for many devices, and since it can run on a minimum of 512mb of RAM, we are expecting a lot of cheap and some fairly old Android phones to run the new software. As for right now the official release date for Android devices is unconfirmed, although developers will be able to download the first release of the OS for Nexus 5 and 7 devices this Friday, and the new software will be pre-installed on the upcoming Nexus 6 and 9 devices.
